Siaki Ika, a defensive tackle for East High and the #1 high school football recruit for the state of Utah, announced his list of the top eight colleges he is considering last week.
In a Twitter post, Ika said "I want to thank all the coaches that believed in me and gave me the opportunity to live my dream and play football at the next level."
"With that being said, I'd like to shut down my recruitment and focus on these 8 schools."
The final list includes the likes of Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, USC and Washington, some of the best college football programs in the country. The Utah Utes also made the cut, good news for local fans hoping to see him suit up in Rice-Eccles stadium just down the road from East High.
If the Utes can nab a commitment from Ika, it would be the first #1 in-state recruit to join Utah in several years. Recent top recruits like Simi Fehoko, Jay Tufele and Penei Sewell have opted to go to other schools in the Pac-12.
Not on the list: BYU. The Cougars at one point had a commitment from Ika before he decommitted earlier this year.
"With nothing but love and respect for BYU football and its coaching staff, my family and I have decided that... it's only in my best interest to open my recruitment and de-commit from BYU and make sure that I make the best decision for myself, my family and my future," he wrote on Twitter at the time.
