Family-friendly activities at Anderson Foothill Library during holidays
This holiday season, a local library is giving the gift of Christmas cheer for patrons both young and young at heart.
The Anderson Foothill branch of the Salt Lake City Public Library System, at 2100 East 1135 South, will be hosting a free showing of traditional holiday movies each Friday evening before the week of Christmas, beginning Dec. 2.
Anderson Foothill Assistant Librarian Linda Chance said the screenings of family friendly, fun holiday movies at the library are set to be a new tradition.
“This is a first for us at Anderson Foothill,” she said.
All of the Christmas movie screenings begin at 4 p.m. and last for approximately two hours.
On the first Friday of the month, Dec. 2, families were invited to bring blankets, pillows and stuffed animals to camp out in the Media Room of the library and view “A Charlie Brown Christmas” followed by “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
The next week, on Dec. 9, the library offered a double feature of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”
Residents are invited to come out for the last screening on Dec. 16 to watch “Frosty the Snowman” and “The Year Without a Santa Claus.”
In addition, to celebrate the holidays this year, all of the libraries in the Sugar House area offered a special day of Christmas cookie decorating.
The Anderson Foothill library provided free ginger bread cookies with frosting and other treats to decorate on Dec. 5.
Chance said decorating the Christmas cookies is an annual holiday event at the library.
“We do that every year, because [it] always goes over well,” she said.
The Sprague Library, located in the heart of the Sugar House business district, hosted a similar Christmas cookie event for library patrons on Dec. 6.
Throughout December, story times for the youngest readers at Anderson Foothill will have a holiday theme.
