New fitness classes at Fairmont Aquatics Center offer fun, relaxation and better health

The fitness schedule at the Fairmont Aquatics Center is bursting with new classes and some old favorites designed to give patrons more of a choice. Amber Morgan is Fairmont’s program coordinator and said the Zumba, yoga and cycling classes were reintroduced earlier this summer to give center patrons the opportunity to take advantage of these popular ways to get in shape.

“The classes have been small this summer but the response has been very positive,” she said. “By offering these classes at a county recreation center, we’re making them more accessible to people in our community.”

In addition to yoga, Zumba and cycling, the center also offers aqua aerobics and water motion classes. The classes are good for all levels, from beginners up to more advanced participants. Kimberly O’Leary is the yoga instructor and said the class structure at Fairmont fits every experience level.

“Yoga applies to everyone; anyone can do yoga,” she said. “Anyone can gain the health benefits that come from doing yoga. There are modifications for every pose.”

O’Leary said the classes at Fairmont give people the opportunity to try out the classes in a comfortable setting. Although yoga can seem complicated, she said it’s easy to learn. It’s also a great option for people in wheel chairs and senior citizens. The class offered at Fairmont is not a sitting class but it can be adapted slightly for people of all abilities, she said.

Each class has a different schedule but there is at least one class taught every day. For more information about the fitness classes offered at the Fairmont Aquatics Center call 801-486-5867 or visit www.recreation.slco.org/fairmont.
