For a lot of people, pets are considered part of the family. The professional groomers at the Pawhill Pet Spaw, at 1625 Foothill Drive, are ready to offer your furry family member the special treatment they deserve. What sets Pawhill apart from other groomers is their commitment to their customers and their pets.

Setti Jakeman owns Pawhill Pet Spaw and says her shop offers three options for pet grooming - self serve grooming, professional in shop grooming and a mobile service designed to help customers and their animals that are homebound.

"Grooming animals is a labor of love," Setti says. "It's a lot of physical work but we are committed to making sure the animals have a pleasant experience and are healthy and clean."

Setti started out in this business as a mobile groomer and decided to bring the same principles into her shop. The mobile truck is outfitted with the highest quality equipment that is fast, safe and environmentally friendly. The bathing system uses less water than average systems and massages the animal while it's being bathed.

Grooming can be a stressful time for an animal and Setti's staff makes every effort to keep the animals comfortable and stress free. A protective hood is placed on dogs' heads when they are being dried to protect their sensitive ears. Pawhill hand dries all their animals and doesn't use cages to hold them. A typical grooming session takes about an hour -- Setti says they try to schedule the animals so they don't have to spend the day at the groomers.

Mobile grooming has become more popular, especially with dogs that have special needs. Setti started working with these animals and found the dogs do better at home. Setti uses hammocks and other equipment to help these animals have a pleasant experience.

"Our mobile service is great because it helps dogs who might not otherwise have been able to get groomed because of one reason or another," Setti says.

Dogs aren't the only animals Pawhill pampers -- cats are also welcome. Most people think because cats constantly lick their fur they are keeping clean, but in reality a cat's saliva cannot break down dirt, Setti says. She recommends bathing and grooming cats about every three months to keep their coats healthy and clean.

Unlike dogs, which are generally easy going during the grooming process, cats require a special touch and a quick grooming process. Setti says that all dogs can be groomed but not all cats can. For older cats not accustomed to bathing, the process can cause serious health problems like a stroke. Setti says to contact one of the professionals at Pawhill for questions about cat grooming.

Education is another priority for the groomers at Pawhill. The staff stays up to date on the latest technology and techniques to provide the very best experience for their clients and their owners. They also try to educate owners about techniques they can use to keep their animals clean and healthy.

Pawhill is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sundays. For more information about the services Pawhill offers, call 801-582-7729.
