Performing Dance Center

A dance revolution has truly begun due to the resurgence of television dance programs as well as fun dance video games. Owner Jacquelyn Potts of Performing Dance Center, 3295 South 2000 East, opened her studio to allow children and adults to "tap" into this world of dance and to show the value it has as an art form.

Students can choose from tap, ballet, pointe, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary and/or creative dance. There is even a combined dance class for both mom and child to enjoy together. Another genre of dance taught that is unique is aerial dance. Students learn an artistic dance form incorporating fabric while being suspended from the ceiling.

No matter how daring you are or what your skill level is, the well-trained faculty at Performing Dance Center is there to support your love of dance. They offer small class sizes in a nurturing, structured learning environment to help each student excel in dance and reach his or her potential.

"We believe that the personal experience of each student is valuable," Jacquelyn says.

The personalized touch comes from smaller class sizes as well as experienced and passionate teachers. The entire faculty has extensively studied dance and holds college or masters degree in dance.

"Whether they dance professionally in companies or make their living as teachers, they've all dedicated their lives to dance," Jacquelyn says.

Safety while learning and performing dance moves is very important to Jacquelyn, as well. Students learn from the very beginning how to protect their bodies from injury. Jacquelyn even had a state-of-the-art dance floor installed for better shock absorption to minimize impact on the dancer's body.

"The overall health of the dancer's body is important to us," she says.

Starting June 14, Performing Dance Center will be holding a summer dance camp for all dance skill levels. The camp provides an opportunity for dancers to be exposed to several styles of dance and to improve technique. Students can participate in a one-week session or all seven weeks.

"Dance is fun and it's a great form of exercise," Jacquelyn says. "In addition to the physical benefits, it offers students a disciplined and structured environment which can help students excel in any area of study that they pursue."

Serious dancers can also audition this summer for the Performing Dance Center's Dance Company. Dancers selected will study dance more closely and have many opportunities to perform on a grander scale.
